SERVICE TIMES:
~1-2 Weeks Depending on the size and service for your motorhome. For example :
These times are an example and may not be an accurate reflection of service time due to difference in vehicle sizes, and conditions.
1.) Enclosed Controlled Environment
- RV must be inside a fully enclosed building (shop, or garage)
- Partial cover (awnings, carports, or open patios) are not acceptable.
- This ensures proper polishing conditions and allows for Ceramic Coating to cure without contamination from wind, dust, or temperature swings.
2.) Flat Ground / 360 Degree Access
- RV must be parked on level ground with unobstructed access around the entire vehicle.
- *This allows for safe delivery and operation of a scissor lift, to ensure complete and full coverage when Paint Correcting, polishing, or applying Ceramic Coating to RV. I will have a scissor lift coordinated for drop-off for the service and will be picked up once service is complete.
- I can wash and prep RV outside the area with extension poles and ladder.
3.) On-site Utilities
- Access to standard water hookup and power outlet is required throughout entire process. I will bring necessary extension cords and hoses.
- These utilities are necessary for washing and Paint Correcting RV.
*If all these requirements can be met, please contact me regarding the services you need (listed below) and we can setup an in-person consultation.
An in-person vehicle inspection (consultation) is crucial to get an understanding of the current condition of your motorhome. I will come to you for this. Throughout the inspection I will photograph and document everything about your motorhome and your specific needs you would like met.
I will then write up your estimate, along with photos and have the estimate sent over for approval.
*For this specific article, we’re going to go over an Oxidization Removal + Paint Correction + Ceramic Coating (Exterior Only) service on a Class A Motorhome.
Before I start removing oxidization, It’s crucial to wash and prep each vehicle. I’ve always said that the “prep” will setup the rest of the detail and the final end results. I use a wide range cleaners at different pH levels to attack specific contamination and dirt.
Alkaline Based : Alkaline will help break down mineral deposits on surfaces. These can be found in the form of water spots.
Acid Based : Acids will help break down tar, mud, and in general everyday contamination. It will also help breakdown any current protection that may be on the vehicle. This is crucial to remove and ensure a “naked” paint surface for Paint Correction and protection to bond strong.
Clay Bar Treatment : Another important step is decontaminating the surface. Over time paint surfaces, fiberglass, gelcoats etc. build up contaminants. These contaminants will make the surface feel almost gritty (like sand on the surface) and hinder and potentially scour the surface during the Paint Correction. Clay bar, clay mitts, clay towels, will remove this contaminates from the surface.
pH Neutral : Neither alkaline or acidic, pH neutral provides the safest wash and helps bring back the surface to a neutral state.Utilizing a foam cannon (this provides lubrication between the surface and your wash media, the surface receive multiple treatments that include Alkaline, Acid, and pH neutral soaps during the wash and prep process.
Not all motorhomes need this extensive of correction. Some just need only a polish, other a cut and buff, and in this situation, a full restoration. Each situation is different, so pricing will vary.
Started with removing the oxidization with a heavy cut compound. Once oxidization was removed, I used another heavy cut compound to remove swirls and haze in the gel-coat.
Then using a polishing liquid, I refined the correction and brought extreme shine/gloss back to the factory finish.
Hours and hours go into working the gel-coat. It's crucial that when using a machine polisher you are concentrating the entire time, because if you burn (polish to aggressively) gel coat you can ruin the finish and it may require a re-paint, which is costly.
Glass polishing is completed on all exterior glass. Utilizing Dr. Beasley’s, this glass polish is a revolutionary product that came onto the market about a year ago.
*The reason for glass polishing is to not only improve/remove water spotting, but to also bring clarity to the glass. This is vitally important for safety. Once polished, a glass specific Ceramic Coating is applied to all glass surfaces.
The #1 problem with RV’s, Travel Trailers, Motorhomes is oxidization. Also not utilizing a professional only product play a huge role in the longevity and protection of your asset. By applying a hand applied Ceramic Coating you're getting a true and proper deep bond into the surface, which is not typical with sprays. While sprays do have their purpose, having a spray as the foundational layer of protection, will only lead to problems in the end.
